Training after two-year break, bit puzzled by the results? Is this muscle memory?

I stopped lifting two years ago and gained 20lbs. Prior to that, I trained for about ten years straight and was in pretty good shape. I started training again late November, and have been completely 100% with my programming (Bret Contreras, 4 days lifting with minimal HIIT, 1-2x). Didn't check diet...
