Losing fat but not potential muscle

Hello, So i recently decided to go change my diet and lose weight and go gym. *I am a newbie with minimal muscle mass.* Weight = 188.054 Height = 5"11 Waist Size = 33.4646 inches I calculated my maintenance level to be 2820.81 (188.054*15).
