Working out and actually using muscles

I have recently started working out and my friend told me to do this type of work out daily. 30, 20, 10 which includes push ups, sit ups and star jumps so you do 30 of each than 20 than 10 with no breaks in between try and build up to as many reps as you can. I have been doing that for few days...
